FAQ
-
Healing the Roots is a community of personal and political practice for people who experience white privilege. We work to understand how the same roots of systemic oppression exist in each of us and in our movements for social change. Together, we seek to heal those roots to find more joy, connection, and trust in our lives and in our work towards racial justice and collective liberation.

Please see our guiding principles page and visit our team page to learn more about us.
-
We believe that this work requires making connections between our minds, hearts, and bodies, as well as our past and present life experiences. We use a mix of somatics (body-based practices), parts work (Internal Family Systems), mindfulness, and the Enneagram to move towards personal and collective liberation.
-
Healing the Roots is for white people and people who have benefitted from white privilege, which may include people who identify as white, bi-racial and multi-racial, and people of color who grew up in white culture. We explore whiteness as a cultural and political force, not as an essential identity. If you are wondering whether this is a space that would work well for you, please email us at teamhealingtheroots@gmail.com; we’d love to chat with you about it.
-
Healing the Roots is a fit for lots of different people. You might want to join us if:
You are feeling the weight of this moment, and you want a clear framework to help you make sense of our reality and guide how you show up more fully in your life, in your relationships, and in our movements.
You are invested in self-development and are looking to better connect your personal work with social and political transformation.
You crave the structure and support of a community of people who share the belief that personal healing doesn’t mean navel-gazing, and political engagement can’t mean replicating the very patterns we’re trying to change.
You are committed to anti-racism work, and you find yourself tired of or frustrated with the games of blame, shame, and “who’s further along”? You long for a space for anti-racism and healing that is rooted in real camaraderie, mutual responsibility, and shared practice.
Collective Learning Cohorts
-
Collective learning cohorts run from January - September. We meet virtually as a group once a month for two hours with an optional two-hour group coaching session in between, with flexible sessions in July and August. There is also about an hour of individual learning time (videos and readings) per month and encouraged (but optional!) personal practice and sharing in between group sessions.
-
We are committed to making participation in the cohort accessible to as many folks as possible. Therefore, we offer a sliding scale and genuinely invite participants to contribute what they feel comfortable with. Please see more details on the sliding scale here.
-
We ask participants to make a commitment to attending each session as part of your commitment to this work and our work together towards racial justice. But, we understand that life happens, and you may not be able to make every single session. That’s ok! We invite you to do your best, and we can be available to discuss individual scheduling questions, as needed.
-
Together, we will learn about three specific ways white supremacy influences our lives and the related pathways towards personal and political growth and healing. We call these “arcs,” and they include reshaping from:
Human Hierarchy to Universal Dignity
Individualism to Interdependence
Scarcity to Abundance and Trust in the Flow of Life
Our work together is also shaped by somatics, parts work (Internal Family Systems), and the Enneagram, and you’ll leave with a working knowledge of these practices as they weave into each of our sessions.
-
Nope! We invite anyone with an interest in and commitment to personal growth and racial justice to participate.
-
We really hear that! Each of us have experienced (and contributed to!) the dysfunction, tedium, and frustration that often occurs within movements for social change when folks involved participate without self-awareness and a focus on personal growth. We have each also participated in personal healing trainings, workshops, and cohorts that were lacking in political insights and a commitment to real action.
It is our commitment to never do this work without creating intentional links and practices to our individual and collective work towards liberation and justice and to support participants to leave with specific practices they can take into their lives.

Individual Coaching
-
Finding the right coach depends on many factors including your goals, personality, and interest in different methodologies. If you’re interested in coaching, please reach out to us at teamhealingtheroots@gmail.com. We’ll set up an intake session with one of our team members and, based on that conversation (as well as practical details like scheduling), recommend a coach we believe will be the best fit. If you already have someone in mind, feel free to mention that in your email or during our initial call.

Enneagram Typing Session
-
The Enneagram is a tool and framework to help understand and heal from the motivations and behaviors that keep us trapped in our insecurities, egos, and—often unconscious—patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting that cause harm to ourselves and others.
-
In a typing session, Mintz or Sharon will walk you through a series of questions and conversations to guide you towards your Enneagram type. These questions and conversations are personal and ask you to be courageously honest and vulnerable, which we know can be extremely challenging. We promise to facilitate each typing session with compassion and to meet each participant where they are with deep care.
-
You can, but in our experience, online Enneagram quizzes (even ones you pay for), stay a little too surface level and don’t fully get at our deep motivations for doing the things we do. In other words, the results may not always be accurate. Without understanding the why, our attempts at healing those things will also be limited. Plus, we believe that doing this work in relationship with others - especially a trained Enneagram coach - provides a richer, more meaningful experience that fosters more insight, connection, and guidance.

Great! Click here to email us and either Sharon or Mintz will reach out to arrange a time with you.
